2 special holiday features are back

Thanksgiving is in the rear-view mirror. It's full speed ahead for the holiday season.

And for us at the Daily Times, that means two very special things are back in our pages.

First and foremost, since this is Giving Tuesday, the day set aside specifically to give back to the community, we invite you once again to take part in our annual Merry Christmas Fund.

For the 48th consecutive year, the Daily Times will partner with the Salvation Army in Chester to raise money to give a boost to their crucial services.

One again, the goal is to raise $50,000. To be honest, we've fallen short of the goal the past few years. We urge you to dig deep and in the process give back to your community.

Please do not send your donations to us here at the Daily Times. All donations should be sent in the form of checks or money orders to: Salvation Army, P.O Box 1032, Brookhaven, PA 19015.

We are publishing the first list of donors today, with $1,300 coming into the fund over the weekend.

We also invite readers to join us in spreading some holiday joy with our annual Page Two feature, 'Homes for the Holidays.'

Every day between now and Jan. 6, we will feature a Delaware County home festooned in all its holiday glory.

Let's face. Most days the news we present can be fairly depressing.

So why now help us makes things a bit more merry and bright.

You can submit a photo of your house - or one that you think deserves to be featured - by emailing your photos to me at editor@delcotimes.com. Make sure you include the address of the home pictured. And also note the format on Page Two. Horizontal photos work best, so please turn your phones sideways when taking pictures.

One other thing: I'm not in the business of making guarantees. I know everyone feels their home should be featured. I will honestly try to use every photo submited, but there are only so many days in the holiday season. We'll try to make sure all areas of the county are represented.

The truth is we are severely limited in terms of photos these days, so we are asking our loyal readers to help us out by submitting their best photos.

Happy Holidays!
