Don't ask me why, just take my word for it.
That's why last week the entire region was tracking the exploits of the critter we dubbed 'Delco-Bear.' First it was spotted in Radnor. Then it popped up in Springfield and Marple. Before you knew it, there was sightings in Aldan and Collingdale.
Then something weird happened. There was a bear sighting in Aston, at the other end of the county.
Either this bear is using SEPTA or he gets around better than we do in our cars.
The next day, the Aston bear turned 'Dela-Bear,' with several sightings in the Trolley Square neighborhood in Wilmington. The bear still managed to elude game officials, who had put out traps laden with doughnuts and chocolate.
It was last believed to be holed up somewhere in Alapocas State Park, but there have been no sightings since it ambled off into the woods.
That does not mean the legend of 'Delco-Bear' is over.
Meet Bryn Mawr Bear.
Or, as Ed Stankiewicz has dubbed it, 'Bear Mawr.'
Stankiewicz lives on Mill Road and Bryn Mawr and decided to have some fun with all this bear hype. His daughter emailed me several photos the bear that Stankiewicz posed on the turret of his home, as well as some spiffy signs. She even poked some fun at all the coverage by having the bear pose with one of our front pages.
Well played, Ed. Well played.
Like we said, people love animal stories.
