Joy to the World, Birds' fans

This was the Eagles in what appears to be their comfort zone - with their backs against the wall.

Their mission Sunday was simple. They needed to beat the Cowboys or their season was over.

The went into the game wounded Birds, missing their top two receivers, the guy who started the season as their lead running back, and their All-Pro right tackle.

It was desperation time for Doug Pederson's time.

In other words, the Eagles has Dallas right where they wanted them.

The Eagles responded. The Cowboys, needing only a win against a banged-up bunch of Birds to win the division and clinch a playoff spot, did not.

They threw up all over themselves - and their coach Jason Garrett, who continues to confound with some odd coaching decisions.

For the third straight week, Carson Wentz continued to answer his critics, putting this collection of characters on his back and willing his team to a crucial win. Just call him Good King Wentz-eslas.

The defense for the most part smothered an equally hurting Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. They neutralized Zeke Elliott - although his coaches helped in that effort by for some reason not calling his number - and made Prescott beat them. Didn't happen.

And the much-maligned Sidney Jones, of all people, saved the game by knocking away a last-ditch, fourth-down pass from Prescott.

You can sum this game pretty easily.

The Eagles wanted this game; the Cowboys did not.

Now they need to do it one more time. Beat the Giants next week in the Meadowlands and the Birds win the division and host a playoff game at the Linc.
