MLK Day activities in Delco

One of the largest celebrations in the county tied to the annual day of service to honor the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr will take place in the city where he attended the seminary.

Dr. King attended the Crozer Theological Seminary.

Today, citizens will gather at several events in the city in his honor.

The MLK Commemorative Committee of Chester & Vicinity presents the MLK Day of Service from 8 a.m.–7:45 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020. This year’s activities will be centered at the MJ Freed Theatre located at 515 Avenue of the States and its adjoining Abstract Space. Activities will be offered for all ages and include Random Acts of Kindness, the PRIDE Mobile Museum, a Chester writers book fair with readings, author signings and giveaways, service projects including Lil Dresses for Africa (from pillowcases) and the debut of two documentary films. The first is about the Greenlawn Cemetery and the other is entitled Invisible Warriors: African American Women in World War II. Continental breakfast, lunch and snacks will be served. Those interested in supporting the day as participants should arrive between 8 and 10 am. Volunteer staff should plan to arrive sooner. All events are free to the public.
