New voting machine demonstrations

In case you have not heard, the county will be using new voting machines for the April Primary.

So it might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the way they work.

To that end, the county along with the League of Women Voters is doing a series of demonstrations at public libraries. Here is where you can learn about the new Hart Verity 2.3.4 system and take it for a test-drive. Trainers also will be available to answer questions.

Here is the schedule of demonstrations:

Feb. 21, noon to 3 p.m. at the Upper Darby Municipal Library, 501 Bywood Ave., Upper Darby.

Feb. 24, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tinicum Memorial Library, 620 Seneca Ave., Essington.

March 10, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Crozer Library, 620 Engle St., Chester.

Additional night and day demonstrations at libraries across the county are being scheduled.

All of this is a result of a mandate by Gov. Tom Wolf that the state move to a system with a verifiable paper trail. It includes plain text that voters can read to verify their vote before casting their ballot.

Additional demonstrations and trainings will be held around the county to educate residents and train poll workers for the 2020 Primary.
