The folks who brought us 'The Process' ended our sports drought Tuesday - but probably not in the way they imagined.
I guess we should not be surprised that a team that considered "tanking" - losing games and entire seasons - on purpose as a legitimate way to rebuild a moribund franchise would have considered their latest gambit to pass the smell test.
It did not.
It stunk out loud.
On Monday 76ers managing partner Josh Harris and his company, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, announced plans to cut the salaries of employees making more than $50,000 annually by 20 percent during the shutdown. That would have applied to the Sixers and the New Jersey Devils, also a Harris Blitzer property.
How much is Harris worth? Well, let's just say you could run out of zeroes on the end of his net worth.
How did Philly react to the news? About how you would expect full-throated Philly fans to react.
They booed. They deluged sports talk radio to sound their opposition to the plan.
Harris apparently got the message.
In less than 24 hours, he borrowed a page from his superstar, Joel Embiid, and pulled a "180." Harris not only reversed his decision but apologized for a decision he said was not well thought out.
Ya think?
