It's all hands on deck - including sports

Normally at this time of year, Jack McCaffery would be sharpening his quill to dissect the start of another Phillies season.

Or perhaps deep-diving into the Sixers as they approach another heated playoff run.

Or, a little closer to home, cheering on brother Fran's Iowa Hawkeyes, with his nephews also playing starring roles.

That would be most years.

Not this year.

Coronavirus and COVID-19 has changed all that.

It's also changed the way we approach our coverage.

In short, it's all hands on deck.

And that means, with a paucity of sports, reporters who usually write about bouncing balls are now tackling news stories and the vagaries of a world turned upside down.

Jack McCaffery was first in line.

Today he profiles the folks who run Clothes Quarters, a mainstay on MacDade Boulevard in Ridley. They are staying in business, selling scrubs and other uniforms to medical professionals.

He also ran down a woman who specializes in holistic health in these days when staying healthy is on everyone's mind.

Expect to see more names that you are accustomed to seeing on our sports pages pop up in the news section.

Each morning we seem to wake up to a world that is largely different than the one of just a few weeks ago.

That's what we do. We write about it.

Our sports reporters, too.
