The man who would be king(maker)

It's time to note the man who has single-handedly changed the picture of the 2020 race for the White House.

No, not Joe Biden, who had another big day yesterday, taking four more states - including the biggie in Michigan - to widen the gap between him and Bernie Sanders.

I'm talking about Rep. Jim Clyburn, the influential Democrat congressman from South Carolina.

Biden's bid for the Democratic nomination was on life support after dismal showings in the early going, including losses in the Iowa Caucus, Nevada and New Hampshire Primary.

He staked his campaign on a big showing in South Carolina.

But it was Clyburn who placed the paddles on the chester of Team Biden and brought the campaign back to life.

He offered a ringing endorsement of Biden, who went on to a huge victory in South Carolina, sparked by his base and in particular African-American voters.

The pattern was repeated on Super Tuesday and again yesterday, when Biden increased his delegate lead over Sanders with another impressive showing. And again, it was Biden's overwhelming margins among the middle class, suburban women and black voters that fueled his big wins.

If Biden is the man who would be king, then Clyburn must be the man who would be king(maker).
