Wawa shutting down self-service coffee bars

It turns out not even our very own Delco colossus - Wawa - is immune to the effects of coronavirus.

No, the iconic convenience store is not closing down.

But they are making a few changes that will affect customers.

First and foremost, you won't be able to use their self-service coffee bars, effective 5 a.m. Friday. So you won't be able to pour your own cup of Joe.

Wawa also is temporarily suspending sales of all fountain sodas and icee drinks.

All coffee and other drinks not in pre-packaged containers will now be poured by employees, according to a statement released by the convenience store from their headquarters in Chester Heights.

All bakery items will now be bagged individually by store employees.

In addition, Wawa will now close all stores for an hour, from 2-3 a.m., for cleaning and restocking stores.

Wawa will close all stores from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. for deep cleaning, as well. Focus will be on all touch points and surfaces. "Wawa remains committed to delivering our purpose of fulfilling lives every day and will continue to monitor the way we operate and make adjustments as needed," the company said in the announcement.
