What does sports talk radio do when there is no sports?

He is very likely the most powerful voice in Philly sports.

No, not Jack McCaffery. He probably comes in a close second.

Every morning for more than three decades, Angelo Cataldi sets the table for a sports-crazed region's daily dose of Eagles, Phillies, Sixers and Flyers talk.

Angelo, along with his sidekicks Al Morganti and Rhea Hughes and the rest of the Morning Show team at 94.1-FM WIP, puts Philly sports under a microscope.

Every key play, blown call, dropped pass, questionable coaching decision is examined, filleted, and offered for examination.

It is our collective escape. Cataldi, the former print reporter, allows us to purge our troubled sports souls, curse the gods (and offer some blame) when we lose, and unite in the thrill of victory when we win.

So what does Cataldi et al do when there is no sports. When an unseen foe pulls the plug on our games.

What does sports radio do when coronavirus and COVID-19 uproot our lives - and pull down the curtain on the sports world.

Who better to find out than McCaffery.
